I am just about finished remixing "Funk Thing" using Sonar Producer X3 and my brand new Yamaha Hs7 monitors. I used Rokit KRK 8's while mixing the original. You can get the job done with either, but for my mixing room the Hs7s have helped me improve my mixes! You can easily fool your ears if your room and equipment don't match!
